In Australia and New Zealand, the law dictates that you need a valid contact lens prescription to purchase contact lenses. A contact lens prescription differs from a spectacle prescription because more information is required to ensure good ocular health. The information includes brand, size (curvature and diameter) and power. Your contact lens prescription is valid for 2 years. When you’re about to confirm your order, there will be a box you’ll need to tick to confirm that you have a valid prescription.
There are two ways you can find your contact lens prescription:
1. From a script that your Optometrist has provided you
2. From the box of your current contact lenses
Contact lens prescriptions can be a little confusing to read. Below are the terms that you may come across and how they match to our ordering page. Not all fields will be required for your prescription.

OD | Right eye | |

DIA | Diameter - no selection required, this is fixed for your contact lens |
Although your contact lens prescription is valid for 2 years, eContactLenses.com.au strongly recommends yearly check ups to ensure good ocular health and longevity of wear of your contact lenses. Although your prescription may not change, it’s always a good idea to make sure your eyes are healthy. Remember, if your eyes ever get sore, red or just don’t feel right, remove your contact lenses and see your optometrist as soon as you can.
In order to choose the best contact lenses, it is essential to consider factors such as your lifestyle, visual needs, optometrist’s recommendation and your personal commitment to wearing and cleaning them. You can choose between daily lenses, fortnightly and monthly lenses, extended wear lenses, astigmatism, multifocal and coloured contact lenses.
Good compliance of contact lens care is crucial for trouble-free contact lens wear. The correct use of the contact lens solution that was prescribed by your optometrist (replacing the solution after each wear and rubbing your contact lenses with solution before storage) and replacing your contact lens storage case every 3 months will reduce the risk of complications.
